Many many years ago, I had problem in FORTRAN which took me a very long time to find. It turned out that at some point I had inadvertently redefined the value "2" which, naturally, I had thought was a constant. Of course, the language should not have allowed such a circumstance, any more than Javascript allows this non-intuitive form of "const."
