The use of the word "scrum" was, as I thought, a perfect name for a process that, while it had some initial order (framework if you like), it could morph into anything that was found to work. But then, as you point out, a certain type of control freak was born to make sure that a scrum was conducted in a very fixed, rigid way. That way of doing things was not in line with the agile manifesto at all, IMHO.
